The existing building had been vacant for years and had been the site of a grocery store and miscellaneous office space. Travelers Rest had targeted this portion of town for new development. The new facility was designed to have a multi-purpose gathering space, classrooms, offices for the different church programs, and space for an after-school program for community teenagers.
