The Owner wanted a restaurant architect to help embrace the “funkiness” of the Laurens Road corridor in Greenville. LMG Architects supported the idea of reusing an existing building.
LMG created ample space for both kitchen and dining areas. They combined three tenant spaces and added an outdoor patio space. The outdoor spaces behind a new screen wall provides a visual and noise barrier. The “funky” features of the existing building still shine through. It also maintains the look and feel of other Rocky’s Hot Chicken Shack locations. The design process took place duing COVID, which impacted several features such as the HVAC system and the operable windows. The new bar was originally not used, but now it is a hang out spot and a stop on the way to the order counter.
Often the Client asks a restaurant architect to create a visual landmark, but Greenville has strict design guidelines. LMG had to look for compromise. They delivered a visually pleasing local landmark as they navigated the approvals process. The design process culminated with a mural from a local artist that you see as you drive down Laurens Road.
